NATURAL PROPERTIES of WOOD Wood can be affected by heat/cold, humidity levels like to dry or to damp can make the wood curl in or move out. This is not a defect or damage; this is beyond our control and have no control over if it will happen. If your piece moves inward, a more humid area in your home can help it move back into place & keep it away from furnace grates blowing directly on it. If your piece moves outward, move it to a less humid/damp area or some sunlight. Wood does best at a relative humidity between 50% to 55%. This is the best range to keep your home at to protect your wood furniture. You should also oil your furniture with a rejuvenating oil, which can be found at any home improvement store by the stains. You should do this at least once a year, but it really depends on how often you use the piece of furniture. We take great care to minimize this in our furniture. We build, when we can, with kiln dried wood that is between 4 to 7% moisture. Barnwood is natural dried out and is a slightly higher moisture content. We also use special fasteners in all our tables that allow your piece to move with the seasons without binding your table top and base. Wood is alive and will gain and loose moisture through the seasons of the year. Together with our building techniques and your care of the item in your home will determine how much your piece is affected by the gain and lose of moisture.
